Taxes & Service Charges

A 12% Value Added Tax applies to all food, shopping and hotel purchases in the Philippines. Several cities in the Philippines apply as well a 0.75% City Tax to accommodation services. Most hotels and estaurants apply as well a 10% service charge.

Tipping

A service charge of 10% is usually added to hotel and restaurant bills. If not, a 10% tip is appropriate for waiters, while when a service charge is added a TIP as per the quality of service is suggested.

Dress CODE & SUGGESTIONS

Cotton is the best choice for clothing in the Philippines. A lightweight T-Shirt and jeans are appropriate for daily wear. Jackets are good to have during rain the rainy season or the occasional cool period. For formal occasions, men wear a suit and tie or the Philippines traditional Barong Tagalog, tailored slacks and leather shoes. Women will often wear cocktail dresses with a light shawl.
